Synopsis
Set in an alternate universe at a college called Faeryville, a group of teenage misfits struggle to find themselves and make sense of their ‘teenhood.’ Rejecting the idea of fitting in, they form a prankster group called The Nobodies. When Laer, a mysterious transfer student, joins them, their stunts escalate from harmless pranks to dangerous acts of rebellion. What begins as youthful idealism soon spirals into all-out anarchy.
Faeryville is the debut feature of Singaporean director Tzang Merwyn Tong. The film had its world premiere at the Downtown Independent Theatre in Los Angeles, screened at the FLIXX Festival in Scott Valley, United States—where it won the Best Original Story award—followed by a limited theatrical release in Singapore. It was the closing night film at the Brisbane Festival in 2015.
The screening will be preceded by e’Tzaintes (2003, 51 mins, PG), Tzang Merwyn Tong’s debut short and a loosely connected precursor to Faeryville. It won a Bronze Remi Award at the Houston WorldFest in 2003.
Synopsis: Expelled from his previous school for fighting, Wynn arrives as a newcomer at Faeryville College, where he meets Faeke and a band of other school misfits. Routinely bullied and humiliated, Faeke imagines an uprising against the school’s popular elite—known as the Backside Boys.
