Full Synopsis

After losing their parents to an accident, two adolescent siblings have to find a way to be responsible for their own lives amidst inevitable everyday violence in the concrete jungles of Hanoi. The city itself is in its transitional phase, endless skyscrapers rising all over. With simple camerawork, amateur acting, the film at times feels deceptively straightforward, capturing the energetic yet melancholic passage to adulthood with compassion. Combined with unusual editing and an unexpected plot, this film sits between the real and the absurd, the sombre and the playful, the crude and the tender.

We Come into Life is the latest feature from Síu Phạm, a diasporic Vietnamese filmmaker with a unique film trajectory, her poetic meta-cinema harbouring a humanist vision.
