Synopsis

In The Mad Monk, directed by the prolific auteur Li Han-hsiang, Ye Feng portrays Ji Gong, an eccentric but compassionate Chan Buddhist monk with extraordinary powers that he uses to aid the less fortunate and to challenge injustice. He energetically rushes to the aid of hawkers facing perilous situations, recovers stolen money for a young man, and imparts a lesson to a stern court official and his lecherous son. Ji Gong handles these issues with a unique and mischievous charm, often leaving a trail of chaos in his wake. Despite his noble actions, his motivations remain enigmatic to many. This light-hearted adventure conveys a subtle moral lesson: misbehave, and the Mad Monk will intervene!

Ye Feng is the seventh actor in cinematic history to portray the character of Ji Gong, among many others like Leung Sing Bor (1954) and Stephen Chow (1993).
