Synopsis

Orbiting between frames of monochrome and colour, Truong Minh Quý’s fictional biography reconstructs the memories of a home he left behind and can never return to. His complex relationship with the past and present emerges through narrations of childhood memories and observations of his parent’s relationship.

Through the language of speculative fiction, The City of Mirrors threads between the present day and the year 2048, where Vietnam becomes submerged in relentless rain. Steeped in sounds of water dripping, trickling, and gushing, the cinematic landscapes of Buon Ma Thuot City are both engulfing and reflective, like that of a mirror that Truong’s mother uses.
