Synopsis

Li Han-hsiang directed The Adventures Of Emperor Chien Lung, the first in a series of films inspired by Qing Emperor Chien Lung’s journeys. Emperor Chien Lung (Tony Liu) embarks on a journey to explore the land and its people incognito, with his close officials Chi Yun and Liu Yung, known for their witty banter and intellectual exchanges. Along the way, he encounters more than he expected, leading to humorous misunderstandings and a deeper grasp of the diverse cultures and lives of the people he encounters.

During one of his expeditions, Chien Lung visits a tea inn in Yang Chow, where he crosses paths with a waiter (played by Wang Sha). The waiter passionately complains about the heavy taxes imposed by the emperor that are burdening the common people. Recognizing that this must be the work of corrupt officials, Chien Lung decides to personally teach them a valuable lesson.

The film marked the inaugural cinematic collaboration between Li Han-hsiang and Wang Sha. This partnership was so significant that Wang Sha continued to grace the subsequent sequels in diverse roles.
