Synopsis

Based on Colin Thiele’s beloved children’s novel,  the story revolves around a lonely young boy named Mike who lives with his reclusive father along the remote coastline of South Australia. As he roams the windswept dunes, Mike befriends an Aboriginal man named Fingerbone Bill and rescues three orphaned pelican chicks—raising one, Mr. Percival. Through his deepening bond with the bird, Mike discovers profound lessons about friendship, freedom, and the delicate balance between humanity and nature. 

The debut feature of Paris-born Henri Safran, Storm Boy won Best Film at the 1976 Australian Film Institute (AFI) Awards and became a popular children’s film in both Australia and Britain. A highlight of the Australian New Wave cinema movement of the 1970s, it remains one of Australian cinema’s most beloved family films.
