A re-staging of instructional texts from Home Economics Textbooks used in the 1970s, outlining the correct manner for personal grooming, house-keeping, and entertaining. The film critiques the extreme performativity of femininity through gestures and costumes to a soundtrack of highly gendered phrases taken verbatim from the textbooks.
About the Director
A Stubborn Bloom is a multidisciplinary collective started by artist Stephanie Jane Burt and fashion researcher Daniela Monasterios-Tan. Exploring tropes of femininity, the duo synthesises film and fashion, uncovering ideology and identity through material culture.

About the Director
Syamsul Bahari began his filmmaking journey with an old VHS tape recorder, becoming a lead assistant editor at EditLounge. The freelance director and video editor now tackles social realism and cultural issues through his films.

Grace Song is a Singaporean filmmaker. Coming from both film and art backgrounds, she is interested in capturing and presenting ‘real-life’ in a poetic dreamlike manner where the subconscious is externalised onto the medium of film.
