Retrospective is a regular series showcasing bodies of work from an extended period of activity by filmmakers of different eras. Devoted to the region’s film history, contributions and movements within the industries in Asia, the platform focuses on particular profiles, themes and aesthetics to allow audiences to experience past and ongoing cinematic transformations.

Retrospective: Mat Sentol is a special showcase of films spotlighting the legendary comic of classic Malay cinema, Mat Sentol (original name Abdul Rasip Yahya). His multi-faceted career as an actor, director, illustrator, production designer, scriptwriter, singer/songwriter and special effects artist, spanned four decades with over 30 feature films. Audiences of all ages are invited to witness the magic of a Malay film icon through a selection of 12 newly subtitled films, including three freshly restored works by the Asian Film Archive (AFA). The films in this retrospective are part of the Cathay-Keris Malay Classics Collection that have been preserved by the AFA since 2007.

Retrospective: Mat Sentol will feature twelve feature films and will run from 13 May – 5 June 2022 at Oldham Theatre, National Archives of Singapore Building.

Tickets will go on sale Friday, 29 April 2022.
