Synopsis

In 1995, a group of filmmakers embarked on a wild cinematic journey to create the first full-length shoestring indie movie in Thai cinema history, a satirical dark comedy titled My Teacher Eats Biscuits. In 1998, just before its premiere at the Bangkok Film Festival the film was banned by Thai government censors who deemed it “offensive to all religions.” 25 years later, director Ing K, digitised the 16mm feature and re-edited it as DogGod, and it has now been allowed to screen in Thailand with a 15+ rating.

The story follows Robin, a wealthy American-Thai, who enlists the help of cult investigator Victor from New York to rescue his wife Cherry Pie and child from a mysterious New Age cult. Upon reaching the Ashram of Boundless Love, they uncover a sinister reality beyond their imagination. The cult’s followers revere a Thai mongrel dog as a divine being, led by three enigmatic gurus, including Satri, who claims a haunting past life as a male Buddhist monk seeking retribution.

Drawing inspiration from cult movies such as John Waters’ Pink Flamingos, DogGod, presents a surreal exploration of belief systems and the dangers of blind devotion. In a world where its relevance has only magnified since its inception, the film’s disarming absurdity resonates more deeply, leaving audiences both entertained and unnerved by its poignant message.
