Award-winning lead actress Azmeri Haque Badhon and Singaporean producer Jeremy Chua will be joining the 3 April screening of Rehana Maryam Noor for an online Q&A session
Azmeri Haque Badhon is a well-known model and television actress in Bangladesh whose career took off after winning the runner-up prize in a popular beauty pageant. Rehana Maryam Noor (2021) is her first major role in a feature film that went on to become the first Bangladeshi film ever to be selected in the Official Competition at Cannes Film Festival and Bangladesh’s submission to the Oscars. Formally trained in dental surgery, Badhon is a single mother, living in Dhaka with her 10-year old daughter. She is an advisor to a non-profit organization that works for youth and has been a consistent vocal about women’s empowerment, gender equality and mental illness.

Full Synopsis
Rehana, a single mother and medical college educator, witnesses a possible case of sexual assault between a senior colleague and a student. Unable to ignore the incident, she goes on a quest to expose the perpetrator, while managing complaints about her young daughter’s troubling behaviour at school. Set against entrenched systems of power and patriarchy, Rehana pursues a relentless fight for justice for her student and her child—at all costs.
Premiering at Cannes Film Festival 2021, Abdullah Mohammad Saad’s second film, Rehana Maryam Noor made history by being the first Bangladeshi film to be featured in the festival’s Un Certain Regard section and was subsequently selected as the Bangladeshi entry for the Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.
