Full Synopsis
Teenager Faye lives with her single mother who manages a hair salon. Their bond is strong but quarrelsome, resembling that of sisters because of their close age gap. As Faye experiences physical changes as she grows into womanhood, she begins to develop an ambivalent concern and disgust for her mother, who is stuck in an abusive affair.
Set and filmed in an old town in Malacca, My Daughter is Malaysian filmmaker Charlotte Lim’s debut feature that competed for the Tiger Award in the 2010 International Film Festival Rotterdam. The late Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami who presided over the jury panel at the 9th Marrakech International Film Festival in 2009, praised the film highly and awarded it the Jury Prize.
