Synopsis

Set against the backdrops of Malaysia and Japan, Malu explores the complex relationship between two sisters, Hong and Lan. After enduring a tumultuous childhood with their mentally unstable mother in a Malaysian fishing village, the sisters are separated when their grandmother abducts Hong—leading to two decades of estrangement. They reunite briefly following their mother’s death, confronting the emotional scars and memories of their shared past.  

Malu is the third narrative feature by Malaysian director Edmund Yeo. The film premiered at the Tokyo International Film Festival and screened at the Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival in 2020.
