Synopsis
Straddling the genres of comedy, romance, and crime thriller, Love Unto Waste drifts through the urban landscapes inhabited by a disillusioned and apathetic generation whose cavalier attitudes betray their ennui and desires. With a star-studded cast including Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Irene Wan, Elaine Jin and Chow Yun Fat, the film revolves around a disaffected supermodel, Billie (Irene Wan) and her complicated romance with a rice shop owner, Tony (Tony Leung Chiu-Wai). Their carouse is shattered by the brutal murder of Billie’s close friend, Jane, throwing their lives into disarray.

A lesser known gem within his cinematic works and his first foray into the major international film festival circuits, Love Unto Waste is auteur Stanley Kwan’s sordid yet playful take on the frustration and idleness of Hong Kong’s yuppie generation of the 1980s.
