Full Synopsis

Filmed in a blend of fiction and reality, Karaoke Girl follows Sa Sittijun, a young country girl working as an escort in a Bangkok karaoke bar to support her family in rural Thailand. Portraits of her daily life are put on view, including the nuances of her vocation borne out of a simple necessity, augmented by interviews with family members and neighbours from her home village.

Karaoke Girl is the debut feature film of Thai female director Visra-Vichit Vadakan. The film competed for the Tiger Award at the 2013 Rotterdam International Film Festival and screened at the Jeonju Film Festival and the Torino Film Festival.
