Full Synopsis
After his partner Cody’s unexpected death, Joey Williams (Patrick Wang) struggles to maintain his connection with Cody’s young son. Starring, written, directed, and produced by Wang after a stint as an economist and theatre director, this stunning filmmaking debut starts in quiet domestic settings before shifting into an impeccable courtroom drama. An initial spate of rejections from film festivals inspired Wang to self-distribute this film and all of his follow-up features, creating a cult following among American and French cinephiles, and an iconoclastic path through the US theatrical ecosystem.
This film is featured in the strand Super Indie, part of the Constellating Histories: Encountering Asian American Diasporas Onscreen programme. For the full programme lineup please click here.
