Structured in a way that reminds one of the Biblical tale of the Good Samaritan, Tsai Ming Liang tackles the social issues of poverty and ethnic divisions in this film. Set in Kuala Lumpur cloaked with heavy, choking smog, Rawang (Norman Atun), a Bangladeshi immigrant living in the slums of the city takes pity on a Homeless Man (Lee Kang-Sheng) who is beaten and left for dead in the street. Rawang nurses Homeless Man back to health and slowly develops feelings for him. However, Homeless Man meets and forms a relationship with a woman taking care of a Paralyzed Man (Lee Kang-Sheng in a dual role). This tests the bond between Rawang and the Homeless Man.
