Synopsis

Elsa sees the apparition of the Virgin Mary in the desolate desert of Cupang during a solar eclipse. Celebrated as a miracle, Elsa attracts a cult following and is hailed as a goddess who can heal all diseases. The remote and deserted village becomes enlivened as visitors, pilgrims, and patients throng to witness Elsa’s miracles. However, when a man with a movie camera begins to invade Elsa’s life, the mysteries of her sacred powers unravel.

Nora Aunor has portrayed one of Filipino cinema’s most memorable characters. The film is a study of star and god-making, where the quest for the sacred is entwined with political and economic forces.
