Synopsis

Happy Berry captures the eclectic and unbridled exploits of a group of Thai youths who run a small boutique for Harajuku style street fashion. Revelling in the height of their 20s, they spend their days in a countercultural haze, minding the shop, dreaming big, dating, experimenting with substances and sex. Yet even as conservativity and structure are happily and haphazardly thrown out the door, exchanged for spaghetti straps, neon pop dances and booze, the dull expectations of life, career and society remain under the surface.

Made in 2004, Happy Berry encapsulates the raw, high octane ambition and neuroses at the heart of y2k street style fashion. Amidst trigger happy youths, Pansittivorakul looks past the grander politics of counterculturalism to examine their intimate lives and experiences, and the inevitable commercialisation of ideology and identity.
