Full Synopsis
The elderly owner of a logging camp, Master Papo, remarries and brings his vivacious young bride, Yupadee, home from Bangkok. Yupadee becomes smitten with Papo’s handsome and shy nephew, Sangmong, and begins a courtship. At first hesitant, Sangmong eventually returns the affection, and a secret romance unfolds. Papo learns the truth as the rumour of the affair spreads in the household. He confronts the couple and pretends to accept their relationship but handcuffs them to one another. Imprisoned and bound to each other interminably, the couple realises that their current fate seems worse than death.
Based on a Thai classic novel by Riam-Eang, the self-determined and free-spirited character of Yupadee distinguishes itself from the stereotypical female representation in classic Thai cinema of the 1950s.
