Simultaneously an act of remembrance and a practice of documentation, Forbidden Memory resurfaces the fateful days in September 1974 when 1500 men were massacred and 3000 women and children from the southern provinces of Mindanao encountered unspeakable horror. Despite its magnitude, the Malisbong Massacre, part of the counter-insurgency effort of Ferdinand Marcos during the Martial Law era, has been forgotten by most Filipinos and denied by the military. In this poignant and pressingly urgent documentary, those whom history has failed are given space to recollect and testify.

The raw testimonies by the interviewees, many of whom have kept silent for 40 years, cast new light on the plight of Muslims in Mindanao and their fraught history through the power of the collective memory, replete with heavy pauses, tears, and candid witness.
