Synopsis

In the 21st year of Emperor Chien Lung’s rule in 1756 A.D., two loyal ministers, Lord Ngo (Chiang Nan) and Scholar Liu Yung (Li Kun), engage in a humorous rivalry to win the emperor’s favour. Ngo introduces the famous courtesan Lady Three to the emperor, leading to a comical misunderstanding. When an earthquake devastates Suzhou, the Emperor tasks Liu Yung with providing relief funds to the local government. Meanwhile, he and Ngo venture to investigate the notorious reputation of a local gambling den. They encounter a mysterious youth who surprisingly wins alongside them. The dishonest owners of the gambling establishment attempt to cheat them, resulting in a confrontation with the local magistrate.

Wang Sha adds his characteristic touch of humor as he portrays Wan Lung, a dealer and dice shaker in the gambling den.
