About the Talk

This talk will analyse how Edward Yang, through his astute portrayal of interpersonal relationships, critically examines Taipei at the intersection of tradition and modernity, globalisation and localization, as well as the convergence and conflict of cultural influences from China, Japan, and the United States.

About the Speaker

Wang Chun-chi (王君琦) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Filmmaking at the National Taipei University of the Arts. She was the Chief Executive Officer of the Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute, the Chairperson of the Taiwan Women’s Film Association and the Women Make Waves Film Festival. She has published articles in Chinese and English in academic journals such as The Journal of Chinese Studies and The Journal of Art Studies, as well as book anthologies including Thirty-two New Takes on Taiwan Cinema and The Routledge Handbook of East Asian Gender Studies.
