ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Cinema has a complex relationship with the nation as an imagined community and the nation state as a geographical and political entity. This workshop explores the role of national cinema in the politics of nation-building and the representation of the nation, with a focus on Singapore films. Participants will examine issues such as multiculturalism, migration, memory, and history in relation to the different constructed narratives of the nation. They will be introduced to basic film terms and techniques to enhance their understanding and use of film in their teaching.
This course is catered for educators teaching the Humanities such as English, Literature, Social Studies, General Paper and other subject matters like National Education, and Visual/Media Communication.
