Shoes (1916)

Runtime: 53 mins
Country: USA

Presented with newly composed score and live music accompaniment.
Synopsis
Emma Meyer works in a department store while her unemployed father idles at home. She gives her entire salary to her mother and does not receive a penny. Unable to replace her worn out shoes, she becomes despondent when she sees her well-dressed co-worker endowed with gifts from Charlie, the cabaret artist.
Lois Weber was the most successful female filmmaker of her time and a major influence on silent cinema. She directed and scripted many ground-breaking films – dramas that combined social and political critique with personal storylines. Her best-known films are now lost or in poor condition. Shoes was restored by Eye Filmmuseum using the 35mm tinted nitrate copies from its collection and a re-edited safety copy from the Library of Congress.
