Synopsis

On a full moon day, Wannihami is confronted by the army’s solemn delivery of a sealed coffin purported to contain the remains of his son, lost in the tumultuous Sri Lankan Civil War. Despite pressure from his neighbours and even his own children to accept the compensation offered by the military, the elderly and blind Wannihami resolutely believed that his son is still alive, clinging to hope amidst the uncertainty and grief.

The third feature of Sri Lankan director Pransanna Vithanage won the FIPRESCI Award at the 1999 Fribourg Film Festival and its lead actor, Joe Abeywickrama, won the Best Actor award at the 12th Singapore International Film Festival. The screening copy of the film was made possible through the digitisation of a surviving 35mm release print by the Asian Film Archive.
