Synopsis

We ride along a drug-fueled journey through Tehran’s rarely-seen underbelly with lonely dealer Amir, as he cruises into the dark and tenuous night—a sultry-voiced GPS as his sole companion.

Shot without permission from the Iranian authorities, the clandestine nature of its production informs the audio-visual language of Critical Zone. Dimly-lit indoors, guerilla-style camerawork and a minimalistic soundscape, capture the subjective experience of the intensity and danger of life in a repressive theocracy. The film itself is moulded into an object of resistance.
