When there are two full moons in a month, the second is known as a ‘blue moon’.
Friends from childhood, the immature and cantankerous Cuen-shu and A-Gua fall for the kind and free-spirited Yi Fang after a game of baseball. As they navigate this love triangle and their own chaotic lives, they each desire to manifest their ideal destinies and second chances with unexpected results.
An experimentation in narrative structure and authorial intention, the film is separated into five parts (red, orange, yellow, green and blue), and can be presented in any order, allowing for 120 unique combinations, each a veritable potluck of genres and tones, from crime and comedy to romance and tragedy.
Blue Moon is directed by Ko I-cheng (Last Train to Tan Shui, Reunion), one of the leading figures of the New Taiwanese Cinema alongside stalwarts such as Hou Hsiao-hsien and Edward Yang with whom he has also worked with as an actor.
