Synopsis
In September 2019, at an Indian-American rally in Houston, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi proclaimed ‘all is well!’ back home. In December that same year, protests erupted across the country against the proposed Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), which sought to consolidate national identity strictly on religious grounds and ancestry, at the expense of marginalised peoples.
With a sense of immediacy and intimacy, activist and filmmaker Teresa A. Braggs chronicles the student-led demonstrations in Bangalore. Filmed over a brief period of three months, friends and strangers of all creeds gather in living rooms and makeshift tents to discuss the nuances of policy and religion; bear witness to stories of gender and caste discrimination; sing songs and recite poetry—a visual diary of comradeship, a collective will for change.
Coming of Rage: Asian Youth & Politics on Screen runs from 2 – 25 June 2023. See the full programme here.
