The Day I Left

The film is narrated by Matt, a young autistic boy who lives with his sister, father and step-mother. We see examples of Matt’s autistic tendencies and hear him explaining them in the voiceover. He appears to have savant-like qualities and a desire to learn how everything works. Matt’s stepmother resents him and does not understand him. Matt leaves home while his family is asleep, hoping to seek an understanding of everything before his return home.
