In the last 17 years, numerous volunteers have contributed toward AFA’s cause. Today, they continue to play a pivotal role in our work.
Back in 2005 when AFA was founded, one of our first volunteers (Pan Lexin) helped to develop our website and online catalogue. He obligingly took on all kinds of IT related work. Till this day, he still provides us with valuable advice and we are immensely grateful for his willingness to help.
In 2019, when Oldham Theatre first opened its doors for regular programme screenings, volunteers Simone and Wei Ping gamely agreed to be featured on our social media promoting our Release “We Are Little Zombies”. Similarly, our volunteers have shown great tenacity and resilience by responding to our volunteer call in 2020 when we first reopened the theatres after Circuit Breaker when Covid-19 hit worldwide.
Fast forward to 2022, our company of volunteer has grown actively over the years, with volunteers like Benedicta and Regina contributing in very significant ways to our work in preservation and showcasing Asian cinema.
It is fitting that we pay tribute to our volunteers as we celebrate our birthday and say a big thank you to the big-hearted men and women, who continue to show up and provide the extra hands we need to continue our work. Their generosity came through especially during the pandemic, when volunteers pivoted with us to catalogue films remotely, as well as the enthusiastic response to pitch in for front-of-house duties when we reopened Oldham Theatre. We will always be humbled and inspired by our volunteers’ commitment and passion.
